Why Have a Website?

I drew most of this portrait a couple of months back, but was not overly happy with the outcome so I decided to refine it a bit – adding more depth and contrast to the hair. I am more happy with this final outcome, albeit improvements could still be made. The likeness is still very apparent though.

I have re-designed the site for the Lisa Beth Curcuru Memorial Scholarship. I was not very happy with the prior design. We were getting spam in the discussion forum, and the overall design was not as aesthetically pleasing as I would have preferred. The new design uses WordPress to bring blog technology into the mix. The home page acts as the blog, which I will be using as a news forum. Comments may be made, and I am happy to say that all spam will automatically be blocked. It is also now possible to make secure online credit card payments through PayPal.

While I am still updating the site, and need to add in an image gallery, it is mostly finished. You can view it here.

Today I dropped off my brochure designs to Jim down at his Bake Shoppe in Gloucester. I’m pretty happy with the final outcome of the tri-fold brochure, as it took more than a little thought and creativity to fit all of their delicious items into it in an attractive manner.

This portrait of Kristin Kreuk is based upon her Lana Lang character on the television show ‘Smallville’. It was drawn using pencils 2B-8B and took me probably around 6-7 hours. I got my inspiration from this photo of her. [link]

I just love the changing seasons, and this sumac branch was just the perfect shade of crimson. Looking into the sun through a viewfinder can be risky, but I just had to get this shot. Lighting is definitely key when it comes to taking quality pictures, and I love the way the sun outlines the branch in this one.

I began this company at the start of 2009 with the intent to provide Web and print design for a variety of clientele. What began with a couple simple services has expanded throughout the year, as new client needs have arisen and my personal interests have broadened. Today, Black Widow Studios offers a wide range of services including conceptual photography, digital graphic creation, illustration work, and an email marketing service.

While my original site was designed in Flash, I decided I wanted to develop a site that included a blog so that I could update my news section on a daily basis if desired. Over the next couple of months I will be updating this site and all of it’s pages, so please be patient. It will be well worth the wait!
